Of course, everyone loves the older Christmas songs. You know, the absolute classics. My personal favorite is White Christmas by The Drifters because it’s featured in the scene from “The Santa Clause” where Tim Allen’s character burns the Christmas turkey. Another classic.

A big part of Christmas is the nostalgia you get from the classics. But, what about those more modern Christmas songs? Some remakes of the classics with their own original spin. And some are completely new. But, which ones are the best? And which modern Christmas song is the absolute #1?

Here’s my take on the best modern Christmas songs, starting with #10…

  • 10. Drummer Boy - Justin Bieber [feat. Busta Rhymes]

Justin Bieber’s “Mistletoe” came out in the midst of my middle school years in 2011, so obviously I had to include it just because I’ve heard it so many times. It is an original and I remember wanting to go on a holiday date like this so bad. LOL, you too?

  • 9. Where Are You Christmas - Faith Hill

One of the biggest movies that shaped Christmas for me as a kid was “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” with the best Grinch they could’ve gotten: Jim Carrey. Although this version is different than the song actually featured in the film, Faith Hill’s version gets #9 since it is a beautiful song that brings out the sweetness of Christmas time.

  • 8. Baby It's Cold Outside - Idina Menzel and Michael Bublé

Baby, It’s Cold Outside was first written in 1944. This modern version features Idina Menzel (aka Elsa from Frozen and Elphaba in Wicked) as well as Michael Bublé, the modern man of Christmas music. With the dialogue-type lyrics, this one earns #8 because the two of them sound incredible together.

  • 7. Carol Of The Bells - Lindsey Stirling

First and foremost, Lindsey Stirling has incredible talent so anything she makes is amazing. This is one of my favorite classic Christmas songs and the modern twist with the keyboard creating the background beat sounds very nice with her violin. This one goes HARD! Turn it up and rock out.

  • 6. It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas - Michael Bublé

A classic song sung by an incredible vocalist. I don’t know how else to describe Michael Buble’s voice except that it reminds me of velvet. LOL, do you know what I mean? It’s comforting and charming. And that’s why he’s #6 on my list.

  • 5. The Christmas Song - Ne-Yo

Yes, this is a classic song, but the modern spin on it done by Ne-Yo makes it #5 on my list. Not only are Ne-Yo’s vocals incredibly beautiful but his version gives the classic song a nice beat to make it R&B. It was released in 2019.

  • 4. All I Want For Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey

Of course, I had to include this one just for it’s popularity. Mariah’s #1 gets #4 on my list because I personally am a little sick of it, but I do appreciate that it is a more modern song that hasn’t missed a single year without being played ALL THE TIME since it came out in 1994. This video is her newest version from 2019.

  • 3. Like It's Christmas - Jonas Brothers

I am a sucker for the Jonas Brothers 😉 When they came out with this bop in 2019, it became an instant favorite of mine because it is very happy, includes jingle bells, and reminds me of a silly romantic comedy montage of a cute couple doing cute holiday stuff together.

  • 2. Believe - Josh Groban

I know some people are sick of watching Polar Express every year (especially us in our 20s since we watched it all the time in elementary school). But, truly Polar Express is one of the best holiday movies out there. This song is #2 because it’s just as magical as the movie itself.

  • 1. Santa Tell Me - Ariana Grande

This one is an undeniable bop that gets me hyped for Christmas every time! And it’s not even a very nostalgic song since it came out in 2014. But, I think the joy of listening to it comes from Ariana’s vocals and the beat that makes you want to dance!
