Whether you want to call him Prince, The Artist Formerly Known as Prince, or simply The Artist, one thing you definitely have to call him is prolific. In his 57 years on this planet, the man born as Prince Rogers Nelson wrote, recorded, and produced hundreds of songs.

The three videos below represent the first phase of Prince's brilliant career. We start with "I Wanna Be Your Lover" from 1979, in which Prince appears to play all of the instruments, which he probably did. Next is his first #1 hit, "When Doves Cry," from the Purple Rain soundtrack in 1984. And the 1986 video for "Kiss" featured Revolution band member Wendy Melvoin strumming her guitar while Prince danced in the smallest shirt he could find.
