Movie Review: Bohemian Rhapsody, Truly A Killer Queen Biopic
Point blank, I may be in love.
On its opening day, November 2nd, 2018, I went to see the movie, Bohemian Rapsody. On this day, I fell in love.
Just kidding.
But no joke, my obsession with Queen and Freddie Mercury certainly grew deeper, as Rami Malek gives one of the most memorable performances of the year as Queen’s lead singer Freddie Mercury in this biopic. I’ve always been a fan a band, as my parents played Queen for me since I can remember so it was hard to imagine anyone could pull off playing Mercury and his one-of-a-kind characteristics. But he did it.
I won’t give spoilers away, but one of my favorite scenes was the band’s performance at Live Aid, a global charity concert in 1985 that raised money to fight hunger in Ethiopia. It was absolutely emotional and moving. You truly get the full story of the band’s ups and downs, Freddie’s battle with finding himself and how their music made such an influential impact on our culture.
Overall, I would 100% recommend going to see this film if you have an appreciation for Queen and their unique music. Also…my bets on Rami getting an Oscar for this performance. Bravo 20th Century Fox and thank you!
