Meet Ben – Charlotte Family Housing
Ben found himself homeless after his son’s mother left their home, leading to his eviction due to the overwhelming housing costs. Concerned about his son’s well-being, he took on the role of primary caregiver and moved into Charlotte Family Housing’s Plaza Place shelter.
Balancing challenges with his son’s mother and a low-paying job, he discovered encouragement in contributing to maintenance projects at the shelter. With guidance from a social worker, he landed a better-paying maintenance job through a church partner. As his confidence and income grew, he embraced the idea of Hope Teams, understanding that receiving assistance didn’t equate to seeking a handout.
Welcoming the support, he was connected with a Hope Team that offered invaluable friendship, mentorship, and community resources. With a stable income and savings, Ben’s son thrived academically, and Ben himself is pursuing Habitat Housing after completing the program.
