Hundreds of Veterans Receive Christmas Presents at Patriot Villas Holiday Celebration in Charleston County
At Patriot Villas on Rivers Avenue, Christmas arrived early as local veterans gathered for their ‘Adopt a Veteran at Christmas’ program on Dec. 13, 2024. The crowd was amazing. The celebration mixed holiday gift-giving with their regular Free Pantry Friday, bringing people together with music, food trucks, and everyday necessities. Some fortunate veterans left with new bicycles while others received TVs and household items.
Local favorite Swine & Sig BBQ served up free food. Owner Anthony DiBernardo, who has supported this cause since 2019, spoke to ABC News 4, asking, “It’s one of those things you often wonder, how come some of our vets are forgotten?”
Running on dedication and volunteer support, the housing center began planning this special event back in October. Kelly Carol, who leads the volunteer team, worked with community groups to collect donations. The presents flooded in: cozy clothes, comfortable bedding, and new electronics. These items help transform empty rooms into welcoming homes for veterans who previously had no place to live.
Beginning next year, Free Pantry Friday will happen twice each month. This update means more consistent support throughout 2025.
This program is growing quickly across state lines. The generosity extends well beyond South Carolina’s borders. Up at Deer Lodge Centre, another program hopes to bring cheer to 130 veterans this season. Members of 17 Wing now help out, selecting thoughtful gifts and delivering them directly to veterans’ rooms.
What started as just an old motel now provides hope and home to those who served. It shows that with dedication and effort, any space can become a path to better things.
