CATS Shows Off First Cultural Bus Wrap, Adds More Bus Routes in Charlotte
On Jan. 3, 2025, Charlotte’s bus system revealed a colorful bus design by Javon Jeter, launching its first venture into public art displays. The bus system combined art and practicality, restoring important bus routes while adding new services. Mint Hill received new transportation options for people with mobility challenges, while bus service returned to Independence Boulevard. Mint Hill’s new STS+ program helps more people get around who need extra assistance. It works with existing services, making travel easier for everyone
This new look hints at bigger changes at CATS. They’re not just updating bus appearances — they’re reimagining city transportation. The return of bus service means quicker, more dependable rides on major roads. For thousands of daily commuters, this saves precious time.
“Javon’s artwork captures the diversity and cultural heritage of the community we serve,” CATS interim CEO Brent Cagle said to WCCB. “At CATS, we are always striving to create more equitable experiences for both our employees and our riders, and this special bus wrap is reflective of our commitment to do so. This initiative also aligns with the broader strides we’ve made this year in strengthening our transit services, ensuring that our systems are accessible, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of the entire community.”
Last year was big for the system. They bought 22 miles of railroad tracks, preparing for future Red Line expansion. Buying those train tracks was a good investment. As Charlotte expands, that railway will connect more people to their destinations.
