Popular Staple Bar In Boone Unsuspectedly Closes
It’s always sad to see businesses closing, but when they close so suddenly, it hurts just that much more.
Café Portofino, a popular bar and restaurant in Boone closed this week, to the surprise of many people. When calling the answering machine, the voice message explains that they are closed, and will be closed indefinitely. The message also advises following them on Facebook for any updates.
I went to Appalachian State, and spent many nights at Café Portofino; in fact, it was probably my favorite bar. The laid-back atmosphere and cheap drinks always insured a good time. And on a special note, the college radio station, where I spent most of my time, was right next door to Café Portofino. I wish I could post pictures of me at Café Portofino, but those have all been long deleted…. they needed to be, haha.
It looks like Café Portofino was wildly popular still, with App State students taking to social media to mourn the loss of the popular local spot.
There is a bit of hope though. As you may know, Boone was under a water boil advisory earlier this week; this was because of a water main break on King Street. Maybe this break could have affected Café Portofino and that is the reason they are closed?
For now, we don’t have a ton of answers but I will definitely be following them on Face Book to find out what’s next for my favorite college bar.
