You know that no one is actually from Charlotte, don’t you? Charlotte is attracting more and more people each day. I like to blame it on the weather, but truth be told North Carolina is a pretty incredible state. We have beaches, mountains, city views, and beautiful parks.

According to World Population Review, Charlotte’s population in 2022 is 925,290. Charlotte has its pros and cons, but if you’re not sure where to put down roots, we’re here to help. Charlotte has a lot of options, which is one of the pros. There are a few options for living in the suburbs or if you like the city, you can live in Uptown.

If you love art, then NoDa is the place for you, and if you love trends, then Plaza Midwood may be the place for you. We’ve compiled a list of 13 thriving Charlotte neighborhoods based on your style. I’ve lived in at least 4 of these areas during my time here in Charlotte. Each one was definitely unique and shaped me into the person I am today.

• 1. South End

  South End is a good place to live if you like living in apartments. It has vibrant nightlife and lots of things to do. If you want to catch up with friends, you can walk, bike, or take the light rail trail. The city has a wide variety of restaurants and art galleries to visit. According to Movoto, South End is quaint but growing, with a population of fewer than 7,000 people.

• 2. NoDa

  North Davidson, or NoDa, is a great place to live if you love arts and entertainment. People from all walks of life are welcomed and embraced within this welcoming community. Everywhere you turn, you find artists and musicians. You’ll also find award-winning food and craft beers here. Arts and creatives who dedicate their lives to their art are promoted in this neighborhood. Another goal is to promote eco-friendly lifestyles and sustainability. It is racially, ethically, culturally, and economically diverse, and everyone has a passion for creating a culturally enriching environment for residents and visitors alike.

• 3. Uptown Charlotte

  Do you enjoy seeing the city? Then you will enjoy Uptown Charlotte. With nearly 9,000 residents, it has an urban feel. There are not many places open due to the pandemic, but there are still some good restaurants and coffee shops. Several parks and green spaces are located in this neighborhood, which is perfect for exercising or spending time with family and friends. Rent is a bit higher than the national average in the neighborhood, as most residents rent their homes.

• 4. Southwest Charlotte

  I recently moved from this neighborhood. When I lived there it was nothing and now they are building left and right. Westside, a historic neighborhood in Charlotte, has seen a revival in recent years. Charlotte Douglas International Airport is here, which attracts visitors from all over the country. There are now so many new restaurants, bars, and shops. This neighborhood is growing by the minute.

• 5. Plaza Midwood

  I liked living in Plaza Midwood, but the traffic was always ruff. It’s a trendy neighborhood that’s relaxed at the same time. There are many dive bars and more intimate music venues here, which make it a great place to go out at night. There is something to suit every mood in this neighborhood – if you’re a foodie. Among the many options are barbecue, comfort foods, ice cream shops, and gastropubs. There are also new shops and famous local dives.

• 6. University City

  Southwest Charlotte is made up of two neighborhoods: Steele Creek and Berewick. Steele Creek is a more established neighborhood. Newer communities are suitable for middle-class families, as well as luxury homes for sale at the top of the market. The residential area consists of single-family homes, as well as multiple apartment complexes. One of the best parts is the Carolina shopping outlets are right down the street.

• 7. Westside

  The Westside of Charlotte is a historic neighborhood that has seen new life in recent years. Charlotte Douglas International Airport attracts visitors from around the country. There are talks of the light rail being built down this way. You can expect to see new housing and growth in the area.

• 8. Southpark

  I would love to live here. The area is so pretty and the Southpark Mall is that fancy life! If you are looking for an upscale neighborhood with sophisticated bars, French cafés, sushi restaurants, and more, this is it. You’ll also find indie fashion boutiques mixed with designer stores. It is appreciated by the residents here that the neighbors keep their homes and yards in good shape, and that they are friendly and willing to help when needed.

• 9. Dilworth

  This is one of my favorite neighborhoods. Check out our Charlotte city guide for rental listings in Dilworth if you like quaint and laid-back neighborhoods. Approximately 10,109 people live here, according to Niche. The tree-lined streets make it feel like you’re far away from the city, even though it is only six minutes away. A beautiful lake and trails are located at Freedom Park nearby. Specialty food shops, international restaurants, and clothing boutiques can be found here.

• 10. Elizabeth

  Elizabeth has a decidedly laid-back atmosphere. There is a slight increase in rent in this neighborhood compared to the national average. In addition to upscale restaurants, bakeries, bars, and ice cream parlors, it is one of the top neighborhoods for young professionals. There is entertainment at the Visulite Theater, where local bands perform alongside big-name touring acts. The nearby Independence Park has a reflecting pool that’s perfect for meditating and journaling, as well as walking trails and a beautiful rose garden.

• 11. Ballantyne

  Ballantyne is a great neighborhood to plant roots if you have kids or are newly married. According to Point2, the average age in Ballantyne is 39, and there are 72,132 residents. The area is home to several shopping malls, some selling major brands and others selling chic, high-end fashion only. Public parks and golf courses can be found around the neighborhood, as well as public 18-hole golf courses. My favorite part is the wide selection of food to enjoy in the area.

• 12. Huntersville

  Move to Huntersville if you like the country lifestyle. Huntersville is one of the best suburbs in Charlotte. According to the United States Census Bureau, this neighborhood had 60,756 residents in 2020. The city is the 17th largest in North Carolina and the 634th largest in the United States. The area is only 15 minutes away from Uptown (unless Charlotte traffic kicks in) and there are several housing options available. Homes and apartment complexes are both available. Furthermore, there are several parks in the neighborhood with trails for walking and biking, as well as playgrounds for children. According to World Population Review.com, the average household income in Huntersville is $120,733 with a poverty rate of 4.25%.

• 13. Myers Park

  Niche.com ranked Myers Park as the 29th best neighborhood to live in Charlotte. The neighborhood is home to over 13,000 residents. The majority of residents in Myers Park own their homes and residents enjoy a suburban lifestyle. There are gourmet restaurants and grocery stores, as well as high-end fashion boutiques. Myers Park’s public schools are highly rated as well. If you like walking or hiking, the Booty Loop trail runs through the neighborhood.
