Local Businesses In Cabarrus County Joining Together To Wipe Out School Cafeteria Debt
A few years ago, I started a Fundly account to help raise money for Gaston County Schools. Although I wasn’t a teacher long, I was in the profession long enough to find out that many kids did not eat at home. School was the only place that many kids got a hot meal, or any meal! I raised just over $800 to give to the school system to help wipe out any school cafeteria debts.
Over the last year I think all of us have seen stories about kids not being able to eat at school because their cafeteria account hasn’t been paid. These stories aren’t only in other parts of the country. Some of these stories happen locally, in our communities. It is heart breaking to know that some children don’t get enough food. It’s even MORE heart breaking to know that kids are denied food at school because of an overdue cafeteria account. It’s not the child’s fault and it saddens me that this happens.
Obviously, it saddens others as well because over the last few months I’ve seen stories from all over the country about different groups or individuals paying off cafeteria lunch debts. Some folks in Cabarrus County are now trying to do that for the Cabarrus County schools.
Johnny Roger’s BBQ & Burgers have started what’s called the CabCo Cafe Challenge. Local businesses or individuals can make a donation to go towards wiping out the cafeteria debt in Cabarrus County.
The owners of Johnny Roger’s BBQ & Burgers will match all donations up to $600 and any donation up to $100 will also receive a gift card for half of your donation to use on a future visit to the restaurant. LOVE it!
What an awesome way to raise funds for this troubling problem in our schools. Find out more details on the challenge here. Some of the details can be seen in the video below. BRAVO to this folks! You guys rock! Great idea!
