Throwback Video Of The Week: The Bangles “Walk Like An Egyptian”
They were known as The Colours in 1981. Then they became The Bangs. However, another group had already using that name, so a couple letters were added and the Bangles were born. The change in spelling worked out nicely for Susanna Hoffs, Debbi Peterson, Vicki Peterson, and Michael Steele.
The Bangles’ second studio album, Different Light, included the band’s first #1 hit, “Walk Like an Egyptian.” The video begins with the Bangles performing the song in concert. That’s followed by scenes of people striking ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic poses on the streets of New York City. Special effects were also used to modify images of Princess Diana, Muammar Gaddafi, and the Statue of Liberty.
