NC Woman Helps Elderly Neighbors Grocery Shop And She’s The Role Model We Need Right Now
In my 50 years, I’ve never seen our country in such a state of panic. We’ve never dealt with a disease like the Coronavirus and many folks are becoming a bit overwhelmed. The last time I felt such anxiety was when 9/11 happened.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not one those people that is hoarding toilet paper, but this situation does make me a little anxious. Having an autoimmune disorder means my system is weak, but I KNOW I’m in way better shape than others.
Which brings me to this awesome story! A woman named Becky Hoeffler who works at Duke University, was speaking on the phone to her grandfather who lives in New Jersey, and he mentioned that he needed to go to the grocery store. Hoeffler became concerned since the elderly are at high risk right now. Since she was too far away to help her grandfather, Hoeffler decided to help some folks in her neighborhood.
So far, Hoeffler has shopped for a few of her elderly neighbors, and she’s even made a sign, letting all her neighbors know that she’s willing to help them if they need it. She’s also posted on a local Facebook group to try to get the word out and to see if anyone needs help.
We are all seeing so much about this virus and our anxiety as a country is running high. It’s good to see that in a time of need, there are people willing to go out of their way to help others. THAT is what it’s all about. This story is worth sharing, so we can all remember that no matter how crazy things are, there are folks that need help, and it’s our job as people to help those in need.
