Throwback Video Of The Week: Wilson Phillips “Hold On”
No one should have been surprised that Wilson Phillips would score a #1 hit with their very first single. After all, Carnie and Wendy Wilson are the daughters of Beach Boys co-founder Brian Wilson, and Chynna Phillips parents were in The Mamas & the Papas. They had the pedigrees for success.
Released in 1990, “Hold On” was written at a time when Chynna Phillips was struggling with addiction. She told Rolling Stone that the lyrics are based on principles taught in Alcoholics Anonymous.
The video looks like it could have been produced by the California Office of Tourism. Carnie, Wendy and Chynna are seen singing high atop the Sierras and along the beautiful beaches of the Pacific coast. It’s actually makes for a nice escape during this time when our travel options are a bit limited.
