Throwback Video Of The Week: Twisted Sister “We’re Not Gonna Take It”
Ahh, the ’80s. So much hair, so many great videos. It was the golden age for MTV. If you were alive in 1984, you probably have some memory of seeing Dee Snider (top) and Twisted Sister letting the world know, “We’re Not Gonna Take It.”
The song was Twisted Sister’s only Top 40 hit and is certainly the band’s most enduring single. The video is just as memorable. It begins with a “rebellious” teenager playing Twisted Sister songs in his bedroom while the rest of the family is eating dinner. The boy’s churlish father is played by Mark Metcalf, a.k.a. Douglas C. Niedermeyer in Animal House. He goes to the boy’s room and gives him a scolding.
At the end of his stern speech, the father asks his son, “What do you want to do with your life,” to which the son replies “I wanna rock!” The boy begins spinning and transforms into Dee Snider. It does not go well for Dad after that.
