Throwback Video Of The Week: Kenny Loggins “Danger Zone”
“I feel the need… the need for speed.” If you’re over the age of 40, you know exactly where that line comes from. Top Gun opened in theaters 35 years ago! Let that sink in for a moment. But a whole new generation will soon learn about “the need for speed” with the long awaited release of the sequel this fall.
Back to the original. Top Gun was the highest grossing movie of 1986. The soundtrack sold a few copies as well, reaching the top spot on the Billboard 200 album chart. Top Gun’s most recognizable song, to this day, is “Danger Zone.”
Kenny Loggins wasn’t the first choice to record “Danger Zone.” He wasn’t even the fourth choice. Toto, Bryan Adams, REO Speedwagon, and Corey Hart were all offered the song first before it fell into Kenny’s lap. It went on to become a huge international hit. Can you imagine anyone but Kenny Loggins performing “Danger Zone” now?
The video includes plenty of exciting clips from the movie, along with shots of Kenny singing. According to Consequence of Sound, Kenny Loggins is recording a new version of “Danger Zone” for the sequel, and possibly as a collaboration with a younger act. Top Gun: Maverick is due in theaters on November 19th. Do you feel the need?
