Throwback Video Of The Week: Starship “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now”
“Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” was recorded by Starship for their 1987 album No Protection but it was written by Diane Warren and Albert Hammond. Warren has written many Oscar nominated movie soundtrack songs and this one was her first.
With Grace Slick and Mickey Thomas providing the vocals, this soaring power ballad was also the theme to the romantic comedy Mannequin. The film starred Andrew McCarthy, Kim Cattrall (Sex and the City), Estelle Getty (Golden Girls), and James Spader. Mannequin did well at the box office but the song was an even bigger hit. “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” topped the charts in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Ireland, and Portugal.
The music video mimics the movie. It shows Mickey Thomas falling for a mannequin, played by Grace Slick. Scenes from Mannequin are also included. Actor Meshach Taylor even makes a cameo in the video, playing his role from the film of department store window dresser ‘Hollywood Montrose.’
