North Carolina Has High STD Rates
North Carolina might seem like rainbows and butterflies, but we have some high STD rates ranking six of ten states. The high STD and STI ranking are linked to cases of HIV, AIDS, syphilis, and chlamydia in Cumberland County. Our local Health Department offers free and confidential STD screening. In the 80’s we didn’t treat those infected with AIDS with much respect. Pregnant women with STDs may pass their infections to infants during pregnancy, birth or through breast feeding. Some STDs, such as HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C, are also transmitted through blood-to-blood contact. A good example of that is the sharing of needles or equipment to inject drugs, body piercing or tattoos.
House of Mercy is here for the entire state of North Carolina. The residential program provides intensive 24/7 care for individuals living with HIV who are unable to live independently. They care for up to six individuals and their working on more ways to guide clients to independence.
