Her Errand For Potato Chips Led To $100,000 Winnings
When Marcia Finney of Shelby North Carolina went on an errand for potato chips, but the store was closed. Not giving up on those chips she traveled up the street to another store and added a scratch-off lottery ticket. The moral to this story is to never give up and ride that extra mile. Finney said, she wasn’t supposed to be at that store. The assistant general manager at Pizza Hut, said she had to double-check her $25 Spectacular Riches lottery ticket because she couldn’t believe her eyes.
When Finney saw all those zeroes it caught her off guard while standing in Mike’s Food Store on Earl Road in Shelby. She collected her prize Monday at lottery headquarters and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $71,017. Knowing that Finney was looking for somewhere to live for two years, made me smile from ear to ear that she won. Now Finney can have a place to live of her own. The scratch off was one of those Spectacular Riches game that debuted in October with eight top prizes of $1 million and 20 $100,000 prizes. Three $1 million prizes and eight $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
Ticket sales from scratch-off games make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $2.5 million a day on average for education. The state has provided $22.8 million in grants, using money raised by the lottery, to help Cleveland County with school construction.
