Tweetsie Railroad Has Three New Rides For 2023
Tweetsie Railroad is a North Carolina treasure. I have great memories of going there in the 70’s when I was a kid. It’s been a fun destination for families since it opened in 1957. As the years have rolled by, it’s grown considerably, and that growth is continuing. The fun attraction is planning on adding three new rides for the 2023 season.
The train-themed amusement park, in the Blue Ridge Mountains, has announced plans to open three new rides this year. According to WCNC, opening day at Tweetsie is April 8. And for the new season there will be a new mini swing ride for kids, a spring ride drop tower, and a family spinning coaster. Just reading the words ‘spinning coaster’ makes me dizzy! LOL!
The ‘family spinning coaster’ is similar to the spinning barrel rides you find at fairs or amusement parks. The ride is named ‘Barrels of Fun’. The new 12-seat mini swing, specifically designed for kids, will be beside Miner’s Mountain, next to the newly renovated playground. Kids must be at least 4 years old to ride and must be between 32 and 59 inches tall.
The new 12-seat spring ride is replacing the popular Free Fall ride. It will be taller than the Free Fall and it spins as it drops riders. The new drop tower is almost 50 feet high, and you can find it in the same section of the County Fair where the Free Fall was located.
There are numerous other renovations happening at the Tweetsie park. More new and updated attractions will be coming in the near future. No word on if the three new rides for this year will be ready for the April 8 opening, but they will be ready this year.
If you have young kids or grandkids and haven’t checked out Tweetsie Railroad, you should definitely make a plan to visit once the park opens. Although it’s been a long time since I’ve been, the memories of going when I was a kid are happy ones.
