Netflix Features Girl Missing For 6 Years and She’s Found Safe In North Carolina
This is a wild story and thank goodness it has a happy ending! A missing girl Netflix featured who was missing for nearly six years from Illinois has been found safe here in North Carolina. Kayla Unbehaun went missing on July 5, 2017 when she was 9 years old. And according to WBTV, she’s been found safe in Buncombe County.
The young girl was abducted by her mother Heather Unhebhaun, who only had visitation rights to see her daughter. When the child’s father went to pick his daughter up the next day, he found the two missing. A search was launched to track down the two, but after years, the trail went cold.
A store owner in Asheville recognized the now-15-year-old missing girl Netflix featured on the show “Unsolved Mysteries.” The unidentified person called police as soon as they realized who the girl was. Last month, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) released an age-progression photo to show what Kayla may look like at the age of 15.
The odds of someone recognized the young girl now at the age of 15 has to be astronomical! Thank goodness for this person for immediately calling the police. Obviously, the girl’s father is beyond happy that his missing daughter has been found. The mother has been arrested and is in jail being held on $250,000 bond.
Over the years, the father, Ryan Unhebhaun, has been using social media to try and find his daughter. The dad is asking for privacy so that he and his daughter can become reacquainted. It will take time and patience for the two to reconnect. 15 is a tough age, and I truly hope this young lady can find happiness with her father.
