North Carolina Couple Have Doctors Who Saved Bride’s Life In Their Wedding
This is such a sweet story! A couple decided to have the doctor’s that saved the bride’s life walk them down the aisle at their wedding, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the place! This couple is a bit different than most, but their story is sweet.
According to WNCN, a couple in Seven Springs, North Carolina is making headlines with their recent wedding. The new husband and wife are in their 70’s. Sheri Shaw-James and her new husband Bill James, had quite the challenge prior to walking down the aisle. After dating for about a year, Shaw-James was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Scary!
Since the new bride was older, she was hesitant about surviving her cancer diagnosis. She told her boyfriend that they should break up. Shaw-James knew her then boyfriend wanted to travel, and she knew she’d be going through a lot dealing with her cancer. James told her ‘no way’ and said he was staying to help her through it. And that’s exactly what he did.
The couple traveled from North Carolina to Houston, Texas, where Shaw-James spent months in treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center. She had to undergo intense radiation and chemotherapy, which took a toll on her. Cancer treatment is hard on your body, no matter what your age, and it’s especially difficult to get through as you get older.
In 2021, Shaw-James was declared cancer free. Prior to her treatment, Shaw-James found her biological family. She was adopted as an infant. After going through treatment, she decided to meet her new- found relatives. And she also got engaged!
Shaw-James says that her boyfriend fell in love with her as she battled cancer. The couple dealt with extremely tough times, and James says Shaw-James is one of the toughest people he knows. Once she was declared cancer-free, the two planned a wedding.
Since doctors in Texas helped her survive, Shaw-James asked two of the doctors that saved her life to be a part of her wedding. Two oncologists from Texas flew to North Carolina for the wedding and walked the happy couple down the aisle.
“There wouldn’t have been a wedding without them,” she said. “I told them I could not get married without them because they made it happen.” I love this story! Congratulations to the happy couple and I hope they get to do some serious traveling together.
