What Do You Do When You Get $17 Worth Of Nectarines?
I know this has happened to other people; I can’t be the only one! So, I’m shopping on Instacart for Publix on Sunday night. I just returned home from a beach trip and was in need of some groceries. I ordered online and was picking my stuff up the next morning.
While shopping for fruit, I saw some organic nectarines. Now, in the picture it showed a bag of nectarines. However, under the picture it said the fruit was $1.09 EACH. In small print, you could see how the bags were $3.49 a pound, or something close to that. Since it said the fruit was $1.09 each, I got three.
Monday morning, while picking up my groceries, as I was helping the Publix employee put the bags in my hatchback, I saw three BAGS of nectarines. I thought maybe I scored and ended up with a lot of fruit for a cheap price. That’s not what happened.
I go home, and while unpacking my groceries, I found the receipt in my Gmail. While looking it over, I realized I paid just over $17 for nectarines. WHAT?! Yep. Instead of causing a ruckus, I took the three bags of fruit, and put them all in a fruit basket and placed it in my fridge. I know have three POUNDS of nectarines!
Luckily, I like them, but what the hell do you do with that many nectarines? As Phil and I were talking about it, we mentioned how we’ve never seen nectarine cobbler or pie. Immediately I hit Pinterest, and behold, lots of recipes with nectarines. They’re so similar to peaches that you can use them in lots of recipes.
Since I ordered more fruit, oranges and blueberries, I figured I really need to whip up some type of nectarine dish. I found a recipe for a Nectarine and Strawberry Galette with Thyme. It looks delightful! Since I already have blueberries, I’m going to use those instead of strawberries.
Of course, every day this week I’ve been eating a nectarine! LOL! If you’re ever in a ‘overload of fruit’ situation, don’t freak! Many times you can freeze the fruit after cutting it, or find a couple of cool recipes on Pinterest or online.
I’m not sure if I made the mistake or if it was Instacart but I now know that $17 gets you a lot of nectarines. In addition, I’ve learned that I need to probably get off my behind and go shopping myself so that I’m not spending unnecessary loot on fruit. Lesson learned!
