Popular Dog On TikTok Helps Spread Mental Health Care Info With Cuteness
World Mental Health Day was Tuesday, October 10, but the advice and positive message are still here! If you’re dealing with any mental health issues, please reach out to a friend, a family member or a doctor. I have dealt with depression and anxiety since I was a teenager, so I know how hard it can be to ask for help. There’s a cute pup on TikTok helping to spread awareness and tips to take care of your mental health.
According to Blast, TikTok star Sapphie the ‘talking dog’ and her mom Sheena Shah are helping to spread the word about mental health awareness with cuteness and humor. Shah is a healthcare provider, specializing in psychiatry. Sapphie is a Pomsky that uses talk buttons to express her thoughts. And she does it in a funny way as her favorite button is one that says, ‘Bitch’. Of course, she uses it in a playful way!
There are a series of videos on TikTok with Sapphie sharing tips on how to deal with mental health issues. In the videos, she’s discussing topics such as motivation, depression, PTSD, anxiety, addiction and more.
Sapphie Is Smart And Sassy
Being a healthcare provider, Shah knows how serious mental health issues can be. Sapphie’s videos are meant to make you laugh and are inspiring. Shah finds that humor can help when dealing with serious issues. I agree! Sometimes laughing helps more than crying. Lots of people have reached out to Shah, telling her that Sapphie’s videos have helped them, and made them feel better.
Sapphie even has her own book out for kids! Shah recently wrote a children’s book called “Sapphie: The Dog With Feelings” that focuses on mental health. As a kid in the 80’s, mental health wasn’t really discussed. I love that kids can laugh and learn with Sapphie!
Dealing with mental health issues is serious, but sometimes seeing something adorable and helpful is a positive! I say this as someone who has gone down a dark hole and made it. As a 19 year old, I attempted suicide, so I’m aware of how mental health issues can overtake your life. If you or someone you know needs immediate help, please you can call or text 988, which is a suicide and crisis hotline. You can also reach out to NAMI, National Alliance on Mental Illness here in Charlotte. Their 24/7 Access & Information Line is 800-510-9132.
You are NOT alone. Please know that. Follow Sapphie on TikTok and Instagram for some daily smiles and encouragement.
