Heads Up If You’re Traveling For The Holidays: CLT Airport Parking Rates Going Up
I don’t travel lots, but there are times I’ll drive home to Gastonia on Wilkinson Blvd. When I do, I pass the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, and each time I’m driving by, I notice a new parking area. The airport continues to grow, which means more parking is needed. If you’re planning on flying somewhere for the Thanksgiving holiday or for Christmas, parking will cost you more.
According to WCNC, paying for parking is going to cost you more, beginning today! Starting today, rate changes are going into effect. Pricing for all drive-up parking spots and decks are increasing. The hourly deck will go from $6 per hour to $8 per hour. Daily rates are increasing anywhere from $2 to $10 per day, depending on which lot you use.
Some folks are totally on board with the price increases. As Charlotte continues to grow, lots of folks are expecting costs for numerous things to increase, airport parking being one of them. Other folks are on board with the increasing pricing as they’re willing to pay for convenience.
Traveling More Means Paying More
Airport officials said prices are going up because of more people traveling. More folks traveling means more parking facilities, which cost money. There are now more ways to pay for parking, including Google Pay and Apple Pay.
Lots of people in our area travel lots for work and paying more for parking is a bummer. That said, many people are ok with paying more for parking, since they want their car to be protected.
If you are traveling for the holidays and aren’t up for paying for parking, taking an Uber to the airport is an option. Having a friend drop you off is also another option. Holiday travel pricing is usually expensive, so it’s smart to save where you can.
Since Charlotte is a growing city, pricing for all sorts of things will continue to rise. We’ve seen examples over the last two years. For instance, rental prices here in Charlotte have risen a LOT in the last three years. Living in Gastonia, I have to deal with increasing traffic. Usually, it takes me at least an hour to get home in the evenings. My mom is constantly telling me to move closer to work, but I can’t afford the apartment rental prices in Charlotte. So, crazy traffic it is!
If you’re planning on holiday travel this year, planning ahead in regard to parking is a smart move.
