Kevin Hart Won’t Host the Oscars or Any Awards Show Ever Again
Following comedian Jo Koy’s Golden Globes hosting gig, fellow comedians rallied behind the host. Kevin Hart is one of those comics who said that hosting gigs “aren’t good gigs for comics.” Hart told Sky News awards shows “just aren’t comedy-friendly environments anymore.” Offering a better option, the Lift star thought the best hosts would be “a bunch of personalities acting as the hosts.” This way, he believes the collaboration would make people responsible for the different segments of the night. He then declared that the days of that “cold” room being for a comic are “done.”

Hart also reiterated that he will not host the Oscars ever again. In 2019, Hart’s Oscars hosting gig ended after resurfaced homophobic tweets and stand-up material over a decade ago had him step down. The Oscars aired that year without a host for the first time since 1989. “Whatever little hope you had, I want to destroy it right now,” Hart said of him hosting any awards show whatsoever. He has previously hosted the BET Awards, the MTV Video Music Awards, and the MTV Movie Awards. During his interview, Hart praised his fellow comics who have had successful hosting gigs, like Chris Rock, Billy Crystal, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Ricky Gervais. Alluding to Jo Koy’s hosting gig, Hart added that “It’s too much pressure on the idea of a comic and what’s jokes and not jokes.”
During this year’s Golden Globes ceremony, Jo Koy was met with a silent room and uproar on social media for his jokes about Barbie and Taylor Swift. Of the latter, Koy said, “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL: On the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift, I swear.” He later told the Los Angeles Times he bared “no ill intent” toward the pop icon and that it was directed toward the NFL. During his opening monologue, Koy described Barbie as a movie about “a plastic doll with big boobies!”
