Uber Rolls Out Rider Verification Program In Charlotte And Other U.S. Cities
Uber is a good idea. For the most part, it works remarkably well for both riders and drivers. I can only think of one time that I had an issue with Uber when I had to wait a much longer than expected amount of time to be picked up. Other than that, the service has run very smoothly and economically for me. But the question of safety remains paramount.
There has always been a certain level of trust that comes into play when using Uber, Lyft, or any other ride share service. You’re either getting into a stranger’s car or having a stranger get into yours. It’s why hitchhiking has pretty much always been discouraged. But now we do it willingly and even pay for the privilege.
Uber Rider Verification Program
Drivers especially have been asking for more safety measures from Uber and the company is responding. According to CBS News, Uber has rollied out a rider verification pilot program in 15 cities across the U.S. this week as part of a push to make the service safer for their drivers. Charlotte is one of those cities.
The verification process involves cross-checking names and phone numbers with a third-party database and allows riders the option to upload a picture of their ID to earn a verified badge. Uber drivers can then see the badge on the rider’s profile, which will hopefully make them feel more secure before accepting the trip.
You’ll be able to use Uber as a verified rider here in Charlotte as well as other cities you travel to across the Unite States. The program is also now active in Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, Miami, Nashville, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Phoenix, St. Louis, and other cities.
Forget Something?
One problem Uber may never solve is that of riders forgetting also sort of things in their drivers’ vehicles. The company recently released its annual Lost & Found Index and, as always, it does not disappoint. I mean, who leaves behind a framed Taylor Swift autograph!?!
