Family Finds 50,000 ‘Monsters’ Living In The Walls Of Their Charlotte, North Carolina Home
Ashley Class probably thought what most parents would think when her three-year-old daughter said she heard a “monster” in her bedroom. Kids have vivid imaginations, especially at bedtime. On top of that, the family had just watched Monsters, Inc. As it turns out, her toddler was speaking some truth.
Charlotte, North Carolina mom Ashley Class didn’t pay much heed to her three-year-old daughter’s reports of hearing ‘monster’ in her bedroom walls. When Ashley and her husband, Chris, decided to investigate after noticing some movement around their chimney, what they found was shocking…and potentially stinging.
Bee-ware Of The Monster…
A pest control service was called in and they brought a thermal camera. The images, which you can see in the viral TikTok below, showed that something was clearly living behind the wall of the young girl’s bedroom. With the help of Curtis Collins, a local beekeeper who has been doing removals in homes for six years, they found a massive colony of honey bees inside that wall.
According to CBS News, more than 50,000 bees were building a giant honeycomb within the walls of the Classes’ 100-year-old farmhouse. On the bright side, that honeycomb produced 100 pounds of honey, so there was a potential business opportunity for the family. Unfortunately, the bees caused over $20,000 in damage to the home and its wiring, which insurance won’t cover.
Monsters, Bee-Gone!
How did the bees get into the house? The crafty critters gained access through a dime-size hole in the chimney. A traumatized Ashley Class said once the wall was opened up the bees “just came pouring out like a horror movie.”
Eventually, the honey bees were vacuumed up and taken to a bee sanctuary. The all-important queen bee was saved in the process. Hopefully, the colony can keep making honey in a more appropriate environment that doesn’t involve scaring children and their parents.
