Angie Harmon Sues Deliveryman Who Killed Her Dog
Actress Angie Harmon, who is best known for her role in Law & Order, is speaking out for the first time after her family dog was shot and killed by a delivery driver on Easter.
Following the death of their rescue dog named Oliver, Harmon took to Instagram on April 1, detailing the event. “This Easter weekend a man delivering groceries for #Instacart shot & killed our precious Oliver. He got out of his car, delivered the food & THEN shot our dog.”
The mother of three noted that the ring camera was inside the house charging, which the driver took note of. She continued, “The police let him go b/c he claimed ‘self defense.’ He did not have a scratch or bite on him nor were his pants torn.” Apparently, the Instacart driver was also shopping under a woman’s name and did not appear to match the name or photo on the Instacart app.
The former Rizzoli and Isles star added that the man told her and her daughters, “‘Yeah, I shot your dog. Yeah I did.’ We are completely traumatized & beyond devastated at the loss of our beloved boy & family member.'”
Angie Harmon Opens Up About The Shooting
Harmon told Good Morning America in a new interview Wednesday (May 15) how it is “unfathomable” for someone to fire a gun from her family’s North Carolina driveway and fatally kill her family’s beloved pet. She added, “And you don’t ever forget that sound.”
The former model recalled that when she and her teenage daughters heard the gunshot, she was screaming at her eldest, Avery, to call 911. “When I said that, [the delivery driver] goes, ‘No, I’m calling 911. I’ll do it.'”
According to ABC News, the man told the 911 operator that the dog was trying to bite him. He said he tried telling Harmon, “I’m sitting here call ya’ll. I’m texting y’all. I’m saying can you please put the dogs up.” A police department spokesperson said at the time that the Instacart driver told officers he was attacked and defended himself “by firing a single gunshot, striking and mortally wounding the dog.”
Harmon said in her GMA interview that she didn’t see any indications that the delivery driver was physically attacked “at all.” The actress added that an autopsy performed on Oliver showed no signs of having bitten or violently attacked anyone. Harmon’s daughters said that their beagle mix, Oliver, was never aggressive toward delivery drivers who frequent their residence.
Harmon has since filed a lawsuit against Instacart and the shopper, alleging criminal trespassing and negligence. Meanwhile, Instacart said in a statement, “While we cannot comment on pending litigation, we have no tolerance for violence of any kind, and the shopper account has been permanently deactivated from our platform.”
