Hilarious Responses To ‘When Did You Realize You Were No Longer Young?’
Millennials have not been the “younger generation” for quite some time. Still, it feels strange to find ourselves Googling “anti-aging creams,” looking up definitions of slang terms that confuse us, navigating the murky waters of mortgages, career changes, and trying not to kill our houseplants. But when did you realize you were no longer young anymore?
Apparently, it hits differently for everyone. Someone asked the question on Reddit and the thread was filled with relatable answers. Many of the responses mention the “out-of-style” trends like side parts and skinny jeans, finding out your name is considered an “old person” name, and others.
When did you realize you were no longer young anymore?
Let’s take a look at some of the eye-opening answers on the thread. Someone decided to dive right into the reality of life. “When people stopped saying, ‘You still have time,’ and instead started saying, ‘Well, it is what it is,’” they said.
Another person poked fun at the shift of pop culture references. “When you drop banger movie references in front of younger coworkers, and they look at you the same way I look at my parents when they tell me they paid 40k for their house,” they wrote. Another person faced embarrassment at a Halloween party. Their Gen Z friend didn’t understand their costume, saying “I dressed up as Daria last year for Halloween, and my Gen Z friend asked me if I was Harry Potter.”
If you’re unfamiliar with the MTV show Daria, then shame on you. But if you must know, IMDB describes it as “a show about a smart and cynical girl who goes through teenage life as a proud outsider in a world of mainly idiotic adolescents and condescending adults. It aired from 1997 to 2002. A bit before my time, but at least I know what it is. I would have been very proud of that costume.
This one hit directly in the feels but is oh-so relatable. One person talked about filling out online forms. “When you have to start to scroll to select your age bracket or worse having to heavily scroll to select your birth year……,” they wrote. How cruel to make us scroll so far with our “old, arthritic fingers,” another person chimed in.
Sure, you may not be up on the latest trends or slang, and young people may call you “sir” or “ma’am” way more than you would like. But aging is inevitable. Don’t let it get to your head. Embracing it is completely okay.
