Throwback Video Of The Week: Joan Jett & The Blackhearts “I Love Rock ‘N Roll”
Originally recorded by British group The Arrows in 1975, “I Love Rock ‘n Roll” went on to become the signature hit for Joan Jett & the Blackhearts. Joan took the song to #1 in the U.S. and half a dozen other countries after releasing it as a single in December of 1981.
There are three videos for “I Love Rock ‘n Roll.” The first one was shot in color and featured Joan singing to a bar crowd. The second was simply a black-and-white version of the same video. It was converted because Joan hated the look of her red leather jumpsuit. She loved the grittier feel of the black-and-white version, according to Songfacts. That’s the one you probably remember seeing on MTV.
A decade later, “I Love Rock ‘n Roll” was included on the soundtrack for Wayne’s World 2 in 1993. Another music video was produced to coincide with the release of the movie. That version includes clips of Wayne and Garth along with shots of the band performing the song. You can see all three videos below:
