Reclaiming Medicine from Corporate Interests
When large corporate interest dip their toes in the deep end of medicine, things change and not always for the better. Is that why many of us are misdiagnosed concerning our aches and pains? Since we only get 8-minutes with our medical professional, that’s called corporate interest at it’s best. Let’s talk about Karen Wilson Saintsing, who experienced pain in her arm, which a UC nurse practitioner diagnosed as a minor sprain. Later that night Saintsing rushed herself to the Alleghany ER where the doctor immediately, diagnosed her with compartment syndrome. This meant Saintsing needed emergency surgery. Why the influx of patients being misdiagnosed, mistreated and misunderstood? Well, it’s been going on for quite some time and the tornado is growing. At this point patients want a seat at the table concerning their health. Thank goodness for Physicians for Patient Protection (PPP), coming to the rescue. The non-profit advocates for physician-led care for all patients.
During your visit to a medical facility are you being seen by a MD, DO, or Nurse Practitioner? There is current legislation saying that nurse practitioners are required to have physician supervision, delegation, or team management. While advocates of the bill argue that it will improve access to care and lower costs, this bill, in reality, would put patients at critical risk. At the end of the day there is a critical need for MDs/DOs in Local Hospitals. We also adore that PPP is addressing many issues of transparency regarding healthcare practitioners.
About Physicians for Patient Protection: The grassroots organization is composed of practicing and retired physicians, residents, medical students, and assistant physicians (a new designation for physicians who have finished medical school but haven’t yet matched in a residency).
