North Carolina Pay-What-You-Want Restaurant Going Strong After Six Years
Everything is expensive now, including food. Whether you grocery shop and cook, or go out to a restaurant, food is expensive. There’s a restaurant in North Carolina that’s making sure folks can have a yummy, hot meal. The restaurant business is hard, but these folks have managed to be successful for the past six years and continues to grow.
According to Food Beast, a Raleigh eatery went with a unique approach and it’s awesome. A Place at the Table, in downtown Raleigh, is a non-profit cafe that is using a pay-what-you-want-model. They offer breakfast through dinner and folks with all types of budgets are eating there.
Maggie Kane opened the restaurant six years ago, and it’s still going strong. Kane grew up volunteering in soup kitchens, and helping the less fortunate is one of her passions. This led her to open her own restaurant with a different vision.
So many eateries around the country were hit hard by the pandemic. Unfortunately, many restaurants had to close. But thanks to the awesome folks here in North Carolina, A Place at the Table managed to thrive and grow. During the pandemic, many people made donations to make sure the restaurant kept going. And Kane says the popular eatery is attracting over 400 customers daily.
Once the pandemic hit hard, Kane says they passed out free meals to folks in the community, serving up to 450 daily. Kane’s love for her community is strong, and folks in the community have shown lots of love back.
When you walk into A Place at the Table, you have the option of paying the listed price, paying at least $3 for your meal, paying with a PLACE gift card, or by volunteering at least an hour. That’s a pretty flexible offering for patrons. In addition to payment options, you can contribute to the mission by tipping or buying a $10 PLACE gift card.
