Having bought and sold homes a few times in my life, I don’t look forward to doing it again. But I know that day is coming. It will either be my house or my parents’ home. Either way, I’m dreading going through that process. I’m definitely not going to do it without the help of a real estate professional.

Even in the best of economic times, selling a home can be stressful. You want your property to sell quickly, but you also want to get as much money as you can for it. You’ll do everything you can to make sure it sells for as much as possible in the least amount of time. Repairs, renovations, upgrades, and even a fresh coat of paint can certainly help. However, there can also be something completely unexpected that makes someone want to buy your home.

Tatiana Londono is a realtor based in Montreal, Canada. According to the Daily Mail, Londono has more than 2.8 million followers on TikTok, where she shares her real estate tips. She seems to know everything about buying and selling a home. Londono has gone viral again after sharing the three weird things that can help you sell your home for a higher price. Unfortunately, they’re more or less completely out of your control. This basically comes down to luck. My house doesn’t have any of these!

Unexpected Things That Will Increase The Value Of Your Home

  • 1. The Starbucks Effect

“The first thing that will weirdly increase the value of your home is being located near a Starbucks,” Londono says. It’s called the “Starbucks effect.” The realtor explains that the presence of a Starbucks makes developers feel the neighborhood is on its way up. According to Zillow, between 1997 and 2013, homes near a Starbucks increased their value significantly more than average U.S. residential properties.

  • 2. Lucky Numbers

Londono says the second thing that can make your home sell for more money is having a good address. The real estate expert isn’t talking about “location, location, location,” but the house numbers themselves. She points out that some cultures value certain numbers. For example, Chinese people consider eight to be fortunate, and 10 represents perfection. In Jewish culture, 18 is the go-to number. Of course, many people consider seven to be a lucky number. The Munsters’ house at 1313 Mockingbird Lane must be a realtor’s nightmare.

  • 3. Celebrity Status

Finally, if a celebrity ever lived in the home, that will also increase its value. Londono says, “It doesn’t matter if it’s a mansion or even a shack. If a famous person once lived in a home, it’ll be worth more at resale.” Luxury Portfolio International reports that properties currently owned by living celebrities “tend to be the most valuable” because of their desirable features and amenities. Hopefully, the paparazzi aren’t still hanging around.
