Shelby’s Mush, Music & Mutts Festival Has Fall Fun For Everyone This Weekend
If you’re looking for some fall fun this weekend, look no further than Shelby’s ‘Mush, Music, & Mutts Festival’. The festivities are happening this Saturday in Uptown Shelby. Now, I know that liver mush isn’t for everyone, but trust me, this festival has something for everyone.
Liver mush is an interesting food, and this festival celebrates the unique regional delicacy and local food staple. Growing up, we didn’t eat liver mush, but when I was around 20 years old, I tried it. I thought it was good! For me, the trick is making sure it’s really crispy around the edges. It’s not something I eat often, but about twice a year I’ll get a craving for it. I prefer not knowing exactly what’s in it, so I won’t get into the ingredients.
Even if eating liver mush isn’t your thing, there’s lots happening on Saturday. There will be more than 80 craft, food, and beverage vendors, and yes, you’ll be able to try some liver mush. In addition, there will be a liver mush eating contest, recipe contest, and a cookoff. Kids will love the parade, which starts at 10:30 a.m. and costumes are encouraged. Pumpkin painting is also happening, and the kids will love that!
Lots of live music will be rollin’ on Saturday, with headliner Dirty Grass Soul playing the Main Stage at 2:30 p.m. There are two stages, and numerous acts will be performing throughout the day.
If you’re like me and love dogs, RollOver Pets is presenting the ‘Mutts’ portion of the festival. There’s a pet costume contest and a pet parade, a K9 demo and trick shows, and musical sit. I’m guessing that’s like musical chairs, but with dogs. LOL! Love it!
You can see the entire schedule of events including the times of certain activities and/or performances, and more info on all the food and vendors here. The event is free and all the fun starts at 8 a.m. with the Farmer’s Market.
