Does Clothes Shopping Stress Anyone Else Out Or Is It Just Me?
Am I the only one that thinks shopping for clothes is a nightmare? Recently, I cleaned out my closet. I’m going on a rock cruise the beginning of March and was pretty sure my rock-and-roll clothes from 9 years ago wouldn’t fit. I was correct. 2015 was the last time I took a ‘real’ vacation. Trying to find clothes for my upcoming cruise is stressful!
I’ve put on a lot of weight over the last four years. Surgeries, cancer, menopause, and quite honestly, depression and laziness are contributing factors. My weight has stayed the same over the last four years, but I’m still too heavy. Prior to my neck surgeries, I loved kickboxing! I’d do it almost daily. It’s a great stress reliever! After my surgeries, my doc said that I probably should not box. Crushing news to me. I need to find something else that I really enjoy as far as exercise is concerned.
So, back to shopping. Since I’m chunky and going on vacation, I need some new clothes. I’m having the hardest time finding cute stuff. Maybe it’s because I’m not looking for ‘age appropriate’ clothes, as my mom would say! The cruise is an 80’s rock/hard rock cruise and despite my weight gain and lack of confidence, I want to look cute. Everything I’ve bought is either way too big or way too small.
Clothes Sizes Are Crazy
Rarely can you find a size that’s the same at every store. One store’s XL is really a medium while another store’s XL is really a 3X. It’s nuts! I think one of the reasons I’m having a hard time is because I have a big belly. My legs aren’t the same size as my gut and butt. I’ll buy something that fits my belly but it’s way too big in the leg area. I purchased some curvy girl shorts and they’re so big in the legs that they look like a skirt!
One of the reasons I’m sharing this is because I’m guessing I’m not alone in my frustration. Every woman’s shape is different and clothing fits differently depending on your body shape. But it’s a huge buzzkill when you think something will fit due to the size, and it doesn’t.
I keep telling myself that being cute doesn’t matter; that the point of the cruise is to make memories with my bestie and enjoy some old school 80’s tunes. But it’s still a damn nightmare trying to find clothes. If you deal with this too, and have found a great place to shop, please share! I’ll just be over here ordering clothes online and hoping they fit!
