Yes, it’s a bit early to be talking about Christmas and Christmas trees, but it’s good to plan ahead! That being said, we’re already getting social media posts and emails asking when we’re going to start playing Christmas music. In addition, I already know a few folks that are planning to begin holiday decorating as soon as we pass Halloween!
Charlotte Parent has a list of places in and around the Charlotte area where you can go if you’re up for cutting down your own Christmas tree. Although I’ve never done it, I think it’s a cool idea! Very ‘Christmas Vacation’ like. All the farms are less than an hour from Charlotte, so you won’t have to travel too far!

The holidays are a time for friends and family, and cutting down your own tree can be a cool bonding experience. In addition, there’s a good chance you’ll have a funny story to tell about the adventure! If you’re like me, there’s a good chance something crazy or funny will happen in the middle of cutting down your own tree, making the experience even more memorable.

  • Almond Christmas Tree Farm, Albermarle, NC

If you’re up for a fast drive, Almond Christmas Tree Farm is close to Charlotte. Beginning on Black Friday, November 25, you can head to the farm to cut down a tree. Opening day, the farm is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. After opening day, you can visit Thursdays and Fridays from 2-5 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1-5 p.m. The farm also will be selling wreaths, and homemade BBQ sauces, honey, and berries. Yum!

  • Penland Christmas Tree Farm, York, SC

Penland Christmas Tree Farm is in York, SC, which is really close to me, since I’m in Gastonia, and not too far from Charlotte. Opening on Black Friday, the tree farm is open Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sundays from 1-5:30 p.m. Eight varieties of local trees are available and range in price from $60 to upwards of $90. They also offer family fun with hayrides and some hot chocolate. They’re pet friendly, so bring the dog with you for some fun!

  • Pine Top Farm, Salisbury, NC

Pine Top Farm in Salisbury is opening before Thanksgiving, so you can have all your holiday decorations up for turkey day! They are opening November 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and November 21 from noon to 5 p.m. for those who want to deck the halls early. In addition to their different types of trees, they also have fresh wreaths and garlands available. They’re a cash or check only business, so make sure you are prepared before driving out there. You can find out more about the farm here.

  • Helms Christmas Tree Farm, Vale, NC

Helms Christmas Tree Farm is another spot where you can go before Thanksgiving for your Christmas tree. Opening day is November 19 from 9 a.m. until dark. One of the cool things about this spot is that they do regenerative planting, so when one tree is cut, another is planted in its place. Love that! Homemade wreaths are also for sale, and they also sell fresh garland.

Pick your own Blueberries at the farm should be really good this week. We have had much needed rain and they are full ....
