Dishin’ With Debbie-Marinated Flank Steak
This is Charlie (age 2), covered in flour and making Christmas cookies with his sister. This is hanging in his mom’s kitchen where I find myself this week.
It’s a decades-favorite dish in Charlie’s family…used as the celebratory meal to mark birthdays. So we went straight to the source for help preparing it…Charlie’s mom is our special guest for today’s cooking demo, and she also dishes some family dirt!
Ingredients:
1 flank steak (about 1.5-2 pounds)
1/3 cup soy sauce
1/3 cup dry red wine
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 clove garlic, minced
Directions:
Prepare a broiler pan by spraying the bottom with cooking spray. Cover completely with foil, laying a long piece in the pan that can wrap up and around the steak. Score the steak in a diamond pattern on both sides taking care not to slice all the way through. Place steak in pan. Mix all ingredients for the marinade together and pour over the steak. Wrap the foil around the steak. Place in the refrigerator overnight. When ready to cook, place pan on oven rack a few inches from broil element. Broil on each side about 4-5 minutes to desired doneness. Remove from oven when done and allow to rest about 10 minutes. Slice thinly and enjoy!
