Moment With Mel: What Is An Apology Dinner
A woman on Reddit has gone viral for her “Am I The A-hole” forum post about some family drama over an “Apology dinner”. She made her sister’s apology dinner a potluck and her sister was mad and she wondered if she was wrong. What is an “apology dinner” you ask? I’m clueless! And that’s why the story has gone viral .
If you aren’t familiar with what an “apology dinner” is, you aren’t alone. Most of the folks on Reddit had no idea. Many couldn’t grasp that the woman gave a detailed explanation about what a potluck was, and not explain what an apology dinner was. She assumed that folks were familiar with the concept.
The OP, or original poster, did mention that she was originally from Romania, so it may be a cultural thing. I’ve heard of calling someone to apologize and offering to take them out to lunch or dinner to show there are no hard feelings. I’m familiar with sending a card, a gift, or flowers however I’m not familiar with an actual “apology dinner”. From the description it sounds like the entire family, was a part of the meal.
Someone posted the back and forth on Twitter, and so many people have questions. The “OP” seems not to know that this isn’t a universal thing. Some of the comments included:
@such_hockey_wow wrote, “I love drama, I would be a great referee, and I’ll have the apologizer pay me for whatever dish I bring. Please invite me to an apology dinner.”
