American Woman Surprised When Ordering A Snack In Italy
If you’ve traveled to another country then you know the things we say in America aren’t always mean the same in other countries. A woman recently found that out in Italy.
Kacie Burns (@kacierose4) is an American living in Italy. A video she posted went viral when she ordered a popular American snack while at a restaurant in Italy. Burns’ clip, which has more than 6.5 million views, shows what happens when you order chips & salsa abroad.
Burns explains in the clip that she sat down at a restaurant in Italy and noticed “chips and salsa” on the menu. After ordering it, she got something pretty unexpected. In the video she shows her food, which features a basket of potato chips with one ketchup packet and one mayonnaise packet. NOT what chips & salsa is here. LOL!
In Italy, “salsa” means sauce, so technically the order was right. Other people made comments about their experiences ordering the same thing in other countries. Too funny!
I went to Italy years ago and my then Italian boyfriend ordered an appetizer for us. When it came to the table it looked yummy. It was a plate of shredded cured meat and bread. After I had a few bites, my then boyfriend told me what it was; horse meat. Yup. At that point I’d already had a few bites so I just sucked it up. Honestly, it just tasted like salty meat and it wasn’t bad. Now, I’d never order horse but as the saying goes, when in Rome!
I love that this woman shared her experience and had a good laugh!
