CMS Sports Return With Minimal Covid 19 Safety Precautions

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools students return to class on August 25th. But many athletes will return to the field this week as games are set to begin today. And for many in CMS, the sports will have minimal Covid 19 safety precautions. Previously student-athletes were required to wear facemasks for indoor games or practices. The district has also lifted attendance limits. Fans will still need to wear masks if the event is taking place inside.

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s guidelines were released earlier this month and can be viewed here.  Facemasks will be required on busses as well or when indoors and not participating in games or practices. Gyms, stadiums, and athletic fields will be open at 100% capacity. Spectators will need to maintain distance when possible. It is also recommended that those who haven’t received a Covid-19 vaccine wear face coverings outdoors when in crowds.

The same as last year concessions will be limited to pre-packaged food and drink. CMS sports kick off this week for football, tennis, volleyball, and cross-country among others. Do you think it’s safe for CMS sports to return with these minimal, compared to last year, Covid-19 safety precautions?
