If you've already applied your makeup for the day, be prepared to freak out! According to new research, your makeup brushes may be totally disgusting.

A new study out of the U.K. analyzed makeup brushes to see what happens if you don't properly clean them and it’s pretty cringeworthy. Samples were taken from 12 brushes & they were viewed under a microscope. The brushes harbor mold, bacteria, yeast and more.

According to the Daily Mail, eyeshadow and blush tools were the nastiest. 11 of the 12 brushes tested were filthier than the average toilet seat. UGH!

I clean mine, but not every week. And according to this research, weekly cleanings are a must. Dr. Suhail Alam, the medical director that conducted the research, say, "With daily use, the brushes will automatically start collecting dirt, pollutants, oil and dead skin cells, which is why make-up brushes act as a breeding ground for bacteria which can lead to breakouts and skin irritations.”

If you'd like to see the pictures of all the germs and bacteria, you can find them here. I wish I could unsee them! And I am NOT wearing makeup today! Cleaning my brushes asap!
