Remaining Blockbuster Video Sees Huge Spike After Super Bowl
Blockbuster Video. If you were around in the 80’s and 90’s then you feel an immediate rush of nostalgia when you hear the company mentioned. Lots of us spent hours of our lives walking through the video store to pick out the perfect movie. Friday nights were Blockbuster nights! The company began to decline in the 2000’s and filed for bankruptcy in 2010. But the ONE remaining store in America is seeing a big spike in sales right now.
According to TMZ, the store, which is in Bend, Oregon, is seeing a huge surge in the number of online merchandise orders right now. The general manager, Sandi Harding, says it’s because of the store’s Super Bowl ad. It wasn’t on television, but it was on social media. They dropped the ad at halftime and since it hit, orders for trucker hats, sweatpants, and other items are increasing.
Harding says a NYC ad agency contributed time and resources to help with their low production budget. For those who missed it, the vintage advertisement kept things lighthearted while advertising the shop by making fun of the fact that the final Blockbuster would survive even the end of the world. It’s a simple and cute ad. And it was obviously seen by lots of folks.
Sales so far have gone up 200%! You can purchase merchandise here and rock out some retro items. And the ad they posted on socials is below if you missed it!
