Dunkin’ Gets Rid of Their Classic Drink, The Dunkaccino
You may have noticed a new look inside many Dunkin’ Donuts recently. Bar style taps are now behind the counter pouring your favorite brew. But what you won’t find available now is the Dunkaccino. Dunkin has gotten rid of their classic drink, confirming the news yesterday in a statement reported by CNN.
The fan-favorite hot beverage was a tasty mix of coffee and hot chocolate. It debuted in 2000. As a result, various franchises eventually offered a frozen version (for a short time).
A statement was provided by a Dunkin’ spokesperson saying, “As we focus on innovation and finding new ways to delight guests, we continually evolve our menu in an effort to deliver a fast, frictionless experience. The Dunkaccino is retired for now, but there’s always the chance for its return in the future.”
Perhaps this will allow Dunkin customers to shift their attention to the new tap options available. La Capra Coffee recently detailed what this tap system entails. “The Dunkin’ on Tap system is an easy way to get Dunkin’s signature cold beverages poured through an innovative tap system,” they explain.
Most locations have tap options that include Dark Roast, Decaf, Green Tea, Black Tea, Nitro and the occasional specialty flavor. Furthermore, the tap system encourages you to order through the app. It is part of Dunkin’s “next generation” initiative – which sadly does not include the Dunkaccino.
Many fans of the drink expressed their disappointment on Twitter, including one who found the commercial starring a rapping Al Pachino doing a song about the concoction. In the commercial, the Oscar winning actor says that he’s changed his name to “Dunkaccino.” There was actually a “Daily Dunaccino” Twitter account, with over 47 thousand followers! It hasn’t tweeted since 2021 and is likely to stay dormant now.
