Video Of Old Mall Turned Into Apartments Going Viral
I love this idea!! I’ve seen a meme on social media saying that old malls should be converted into retirement homes for Gen X folks. After seeing this video, I’m so in.
According to MSN, an 80’s mall in Milwaukee is now apartments and they’re getting attention. There are pickleball courts, a doggy fitness center and a food hall. Guessing the food hall is where the old ‘food court’ was. There’s even a Walgreens at this renovated mall.
If you grew up in the 1980’s, the mall was the place to go! There was constant activity in malls across the U.S. in the 80’s. I worked at Eastridge Mall in Gastonia as a teen and have great memories of the mall. Now, the mall in Gastonia isn’t great.
Milwaukee’s historic Grand Avenue mall is going viral on TikTok. @SaritaLatasha posted a video of the mall and it’s snagged more than 1.5 million views. She doesn’t live in the mall but works in the building next door and decided to check it out. In her video, she shows all the amenities and says it’s a whole ‘vibe’. And it is.
The mall was built in 1982, but like many malls, suffered financially over the years. According to the apartment complex’s website, it is a multi-faceted urban center with apartments, office space, a food hall, and more. It’s so cool!
Instead of tearing down old malls and building new buildings, this is a great idea! I’d love it if this happened around here. For those of us who grew up in the ‘mall era’, it’s nostalgic and fun. Check out the video below for a look inside. I’m in!
