‘Backwards Beach Days’ New Trend In Vacationing And It’s Great If You Have Little Kids
I’ve been vacationing at North and South Carolina beaches my entire life. As a little kid, I remember being at the beach all day. As a teenager, I’d also be out there all day long. When I was a step-mom, we’d usually take the kids to the beach mid-morning. Now as an adult, I’m usually at the beach with some girlfriends and we go out mid-morning or early afternoon and stay til dinner time. There’s a new trend parents with younger kids are loving and it’s called a ‘backwards beach day’.
According to Huffington Post, Kansas City, Missouri mom Kelsey Pomeroy has started doing ‘backwards beach days’ with her kids, and it’s better for her and the kids. The content creator says on vacations with her 4-year-old and 1-year-old, they don’t hit the beach in the mornings like most families do. The now wait until late afternoon to hit the beach, after the kids have had their naps. This makes it more relaxing for her and her kids, and they can truly enjoy their beach time.
When you have kids and go out to the beach early, you have to go back inside for lunch and naps. With a ‘backwards beach day’ you don’t have to worry about that. There’s no kid meltdown about going in for food or for a nap. Kids are fed, rested, and enjoy their time in the sand. In addition to the kids having a better time, the parents can also relax.
Pomeroy decided to switch things up so she could actually enjoy the beach with her sons. In the mornings, they do quicker and easier activities like the pool or the park followed by an early lunch at a restaurant. Then they put their kids down for their naps. After they wake up, they head to the beach around 3 or 4 p.m. for a few hours. Dinner is a sunset picnic on the beach.
This is a great idea! Not only are you and your kids enjoying the beach without interruptions, but the beach is also usually less crowded later in the afternoon. You’re also missing huge wait times for dinner. All restaurants at all beaches are busy from 5 p.m. until they close with folks waiting for tables for dinner. Having little ones wait an hour or longer to eat is a ruckus! They get cranky and dinner isn’t a festive affair.
If you’re planning on hitting a beach this weekend to celebrate the 4th of July and you have young kids or grandkids, you may want to try this trend while vacationing. See how it goes for a day and then you can decide if it’s for you. Seems like a smart call!
@kelsewhatelse I used to hate going to the beach with small children. But now that I do backwards beach days, I've started loving it. I'm not sure I will ever go to a beach morning/midday ever again, at least until my kids can make it through the day without naps and without dinner meltdowns! Our sunset beach picnics have been so much better than having tired screaming children in a restaurant. #travelwithkids #momsoftiktok #babiesoftiktok #toddlersoftiktok #momhack #momtips #familytraveltips
