Pen Pals Finally Meet After Writing Each Other For 68 Years And This Story Is Amazing
Before the internet, cell phones, and video chat, people communicated by a land-line phone or by writing letters. I know the concept may seem strange to some, but many of us as kids had ‘pen pals’. You’d meet someone from another city or state at camp or while on vacation, and you’d write back and forth to each other. Eventually, as people get older and become engrossed in life, letters to each other would be less frequent and eventually stop. But not for these two ladies! They’ve been pen pals for 68 years and finally they’ve met in person!
According to Daily Mail, Patsy Gregory who lives in England, and Carol-Ann Krause, from South Carolina, have been swapping letters since 1955. Both ladies are now 80 years old. The two became friends when they were both Girl Guides, which is similar to Girl Scouts now. Patsy Gregory got Carol-Ann Krause’s name while they were both in the organization and sent her a letter. And that’s how their friendship began.
The two were around 12 years old when they began writing letters to each other. At the time, Krause was living in Buffalo, New York and Gregory was interested in her American life. The two would share details about their lives, school, boyfriends, and news of the day. They would send letters to each other once every month or two, both having written about 400 letters each.
As the two women got older, they’d always remember each other’s birthday’s, wedding anniversaries, and holidays. Cards and letters were sent for all special occasions as they grew up. The women have similar interests, and as they got older, their common interests continued. Both went on to marry in the mid-1960’s, and both had three children.
Despite never meeting in person, the two women have always been close. They feel like they’re a part of each other’s lives. Patsy Gregory told one of her daughter’s that she really wanted to meet Carol-Ann Krause in person before her 80th birthday. So her kids made it happen! For her birthday, which is June 6, her kids sent her on a trip to America for 10 days to see her longtime friend.
Even though the two women had been sharing things with each other for years, both were nervous when it was time to meet in person. Of course, the nervousness didn’t last long! Once the two were together, they ended up talking for hours. Patsy was able to take in the sights of South Carolina with her dear friend, and I’m sure the meeting in person only made their friendship stronger. Such a cool story! To be friends for so long without ever meeting! What an amazing story! I’m so glad they were able to meet in person.
Years ago, in the 80’s, I made a friend while standing in line outside of the old Charlotte Coliseum before a KISS concert. We ended up being pen pals for a few years, then as we got older, we stopped writing. A few years ago, when I went on the first Motorhead cruise, she saw my name and picture on Facebook. We were both a part of the same group about the cruise. Both of us were on the same rock cruise, and we didn’t know it! She reached out to me, and now we’re friends on Facebook. We still haven’t met up at a show, but hopefully that’ll happen soon. She lives in Georgia, and I’m sure we’ve been at many of the same rock shows at the same time. Crazy! It really is a small world!
