Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner Break Silence on Their Divorce
Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner have finally broken their silence on their divorce. In a joint statement posted on Instagram Wednesday (September 6), the two say: “After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”
As we recently reported, Joe filed for divorce from Sophie in Miami Tuesday, asking for joint custody of their two young daughters, ages one and three. The couple has a prenup and has apparently been having problems for about six months. As for why Joe filed for divorce, a source told gossip website TMZ that Turner, 27, “likes to party, he likes to stay at home. They have very different lifestyles.” According to the court documents, Joe has reportedly taken care of their children “pretty much all of the time” over the last three months, even as his band toured the US. When it comes time for the custody arrangement, Joe will likely ask for and be granted more than 50% physical custody. However, he wants the judge to establish a parenting plan that allows for “frequent and continuing contact with both parties.”
In another recent development reported on by the gossip site, Joe saw or heard something over his Ring camera that Sophie did or said. That was apparently the last straw in his decision to file for divorce. The couple started dating in 2016 and got engaged the following year. In 2019, Joe and Sophie tied the knot in a Vegas ceremony. It’s the first marriage for both Joe and Sophie. Joe and the Jonas Brothers are currently on a U.S. tour and will be on the road through December when they close their tour in Brookyn.
