Student Was Excited To Go To College, Then She Learned She Made A Really Big Mistake

This story sounds like something out of a television sitcom. Actually, if you’ve seen ‘The Office’, this DID happen. A character, Kelly, is dating a doctor who gets a job in Miami. Living in Scranton, PA, Kelly had lots of winter coats since it snows there lots. Once she knew she was moving to Miami, she went to work and gave away all her winter coats. Then Kelly found out her boyfriend was going to be working in Miami, Ohio. Yeah…..

Sadly, this scenario has really happened to a girl! According to Insider, international student, Valerie Do, from Vietnam, was excited to be moving to Miami for college. Once her acceptance letter arrived, she realized she’d applied to Miami University in Ohio. Living in Vietnam, Do was unable to physically go on a college tour, like many students do here in the U.S. Reading her acceptance letter, she was confused.

At first, she wondered whether Ohio might be a district or a county in Florida. But after a quick Google search, she figured out that she wasn’t going to the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. She’d be traveling to school in Oxford, Ohio as that’s where Miami University is.

Bye Beaches And Hi Snow

Do’s dreams of beaches and palm trees was gone! In its place was corn fields and snow. The University of Miami in Ohio has a good business school, so Do decided to accept the offer to go to college there. And she has a great sense of humor! Do is sharing her screw-up on TikTok, and her video is going viral with over 1.5 million views. According to one of her videos about her mistake, Do says the school offered her a scholarship and financial aid. Since college tuition is crazy expensive, I’m thinking she made the right call!

Despite the big mistake, and a lot of negative comments on her video, Do is happy in Ohio. Since being in America, she’s traveled to Miami, Florida and says she feels safer in Ohio. Funny how some mistakes turn out for the best! If you have a kid in high school and they’re researching colleges, make sure they do some Googling so they know where they’re going!

US News Best Colleges Rankings, Here's How North Carolina Universities Scored

Looking at colleges can be overwhelming. I was lucky enough to know exactly where I wanted to go to school from a young age and was able to make that dream a reality. But many students don’t know where they want to go or perhaps don’t have the grades to get into their dream school. There are so many colleges across not only North Carolina, but the region, and nationally. Especially if you don’t have a specific major in mind how do you even begin to narrow down your choices? One trusted source many high school students use is the US News and World Report Best Colleges rankings. The 2024 Best Colleges Rankings were just released, including 16 North Carolina universities in the national rankings.

This is undeniably just one of numerous things that should be considered when making the decision on where to study. Some students prefer a smaller institution, while others want a large college experience. Location plays a big part in the decision as well and of course affordability or availability of scholarships. The best colleges in North Carolina included on the US News list span the entire state of NC. Some are in small towns, others in the state’s largest cities. Some are state schools which means cheaper tuition for in-state students. There are several private schools (complete with a higher price tag) included on the list as well.

The four highest-ranked schools all made the top 100 nationally. Two are private and two are public. All four are members of the ACC. Which ones ranked where? You’ll have to keep reading to find out.
