Charlotte Brewery Holding A Reuben Festival This Weekend
Get your fat pants ready! You’ll need to be rocking them this weekend if you hit this local event. It’s funny how I found out about this festival. My dad, who’s 82 years old, shared it on his Facebook page. He’s interested in going! LOL! Although I shouldn’t be too surprised. Since we’re Jewish, we’ve had some yummy Reuben sandwiches. My dad grew up in Brooklyn, New York, so growing up, he ate those NY Reuben sandwiches that are as big as your head!
Since St. Patrick’s Day is this Sunday, it seems quite fitting that this event is on Saturday. Corned beef and cabbage are a popular meal for the holiday. Corned beef and sauerkraut works too! OMB LoSo’s Second Annual Reuben Fest is happening this Saturday, March 16 and this Sunday, March 17. OMB or The Old Mecklenburg Brewery & Biergarten, will be serving up original Reuben sandwiches and festive variations of the sandwich all weekend.
In addition to the food and tasty beer, the festival will offer live music from local bands/musicians. If Reuben’s aren’t your thing, don’t worry. You can still hit the party as they’ll be serving a limited menu including pretzels, sausages, burgers and salads.
Interesting Takes On The Reuben
So, if you’re like me, you’re wondering HOW a Reuben sandwich can be better than it is! Well, the chefs at OMB are hoping you’ll love one of their creations as much as the original. A few of the variations of the Reuben are:
-Reuben Calzone
– Lobster Reuben
– Reuben Pierogis
– Bratwurst Reuben
– Reuben Poutine
– Pastrami Reuben
A Pastrami Reuben is pretty close to the original. As a pastrami and corned beef fan, I’m in for both! Once I made a Reuben casserole that was pretty tasty, but truth told, I like the sandwich better. I’ve never tried any of the above variations, but they all look interesting. Not sure about the Lobster Reuben though. That sounds extremely rich to me.
If you’re in for good beer, some tasty Reuben flavors, and some great live tunes, OMB is the place to be this weekend. If you’ve never been, it’s located at 4150 Yancey Rd. Charlotte, NC. Saturday the fest runs from 11 A.M.-11 P.M. and Sunday from 11 A.M.-10 P.M. You can grab more info here.
