NFL Legend Slams Carolina Panthers Owner David Tepper, “Quit Playing Fantasy Football”
Looks like a few people have some things to say about Carolina Panthers owner, David Tepper. After a 2-15 record for the 2023-2024 season, many had their eyes on the Panthers this year to see what they would bring. Unfortunately, the start of the season did not look too good. The Panthers lost the first two games of the regular season which led to the decision to bench first-round draft pick, Bryce Young. But, that decision did not come without a few opinions.
NFL Legend Addresses Carolina Panthers and David Tepper
The Panthers went into Week 3 with Andy Dalton named the new starting quarterback for their match-up against the Las Vegas Raiders. But, before that game on Sunday, NFL legend Jimmy Johnson had a few things to get off his chest about the Panthers’ owner, David Tepper.
“The owner of the Carolina Panthers, that’s the problem,” said Johnson on FOX Sports. “He’s making the major decisions without listening to his football people. David Tepper, it’s his team. He can do whatever he wants to, but look at the people that’s left. He’s the one who wanted Bryce Young as the No. 1 pick.”
Johnson then went on to explain the amount of people who have rotated through the Panthers organization, from staple players over the years to coaches. “You look at Christian McCaffrey, D.J. Moore, Brian Burns, Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold. You look at coaches: Steve Wilks, Frank Reich, Matt Rhule. On and on, he’s run them all off. He’s making the decisions. He has got to listen to his football people and quit playing fantasy football,” said Johnson.
Tepper became the owner of the Carolina Panthers in May 2018. Since then, the Panthers have had the league’s worst record of 31-70 since the start of the 2018 season when Tepper became the owner of the team. So, what’s next?
Sunday the Panthers went on to gain their first win of the season when they beat the Las Vegas Raiders 36-22. This was the first game with a new starting QB and many are speculating that this is the change that was needed.
Other rumors circulating are that teams are interested in making a trade deal with the Panthers for former starting QB, Bryce Young. Although Panthers Head Coach Dave Canales says that he is not interested in trading the second-year quarterback, many are interested to see how this will play out during the off-season. Will the Panthers win more games this season? We will be tuned in to find out!
