Are Smartwatches More Distracting Than Phones?
Are smartwatches more distracting than phones? It seems to be the case. Smartwatches do distract drivers more than phones. An estimated 73 million people will be using wearable technology by 2022 in the U.S. Currently, one in six Americans owns a smartwatch. A study found Smartwatches to be more distracting than mobile phones with Voice Assistants being less distracting. Drivers are more distracted by written alerts than alerts given to them by voice. Which makes sense. While I don’t have a smartwatch, I have Apple CarPlay in my car to get written notifications on my console screen. If I happen to be glancing at it when one comes through it can be very distracting. Distracted driving is defined as “When a driver’s attention is taken away from the driving task because they are focused on something else.”And distracted driving is a leading cause of traffic accidents.
How would you describe your driving style? Are you a focused driver? Distracted? Eat when you drive? Put makeup on when you drive?
